Episode 1: The Accommodation Crisis
Welcome to the first episode of a groundbreaking series on supported accommodation in Queensland. We examine its crucial role in providing homes and care for vulnerable individuals, addressing myths about private enterprise-supported accommodation and highlighting funding gaps between private operators and government or not-for-profit organizations. This episode ignites a conversation about fairness and equity in supported accommodation, showing how private enterprises encounter systemic discrimination while delivering cost-effective, high-quality services. Let’s engage in a dialogue that Queenslanders must address as we push for a fairer future for all.

Episode 2 - Supported Accommodation - More Than Just the Building
In this powerful episode, we delve into the unique challenges and true meaning of supported accommodation. It's not just about providing a roof and walls—it's about creating a holistic environment that combines housing with essential, round-the-clock care. For residents on fixed incomes, these services are critical, but they can’t afford the real costs, leaving private providers to shoulder an unsustainable financial burden. – Discover why supported accommodation is inseparable from humanitarian care—and why this unique model struggles without adequate government funding. – Hear real-life stories, like Gary, whose cries for attention highlighted the need for continuous care. – Explore the unseen “micro-moments” of support that prevent crises, reduce strain on emergency services, and foster a kindred community. We discuss how the absence of public funding puts the entire sector at risk and why we need to rethink government priorities to ensure that supported accommodation remains viable for those who need it most. This episode pulls no punches—addressing the critical failures of current policies and paving the way for solutions in the next instalment. Join us for a heartfelt and eye-opening discussion about one of society’s most undervalued services.

Episode 3 - Discriminating Against the Vulnerable
In this episode, we are looking at the discrimination of vulnerable people, including people living with disability, people at the risk of homelessness … many of whom have no family or community support. The former Queensland Government poured obscene amounts of money into the charities and not for profits to provide housing ... inappropriate housing ... unfit for purpose. In this episode we reveal discrimination towards the structured pillars upon which our society has been built, the Private Sector, Free Enterprise, the single creator of wealth that gives individuals purpose responsibility, rights and reward and it gives us tomorrow. I hope you enjoy this episode identifying discrimination in Supported Accommodation in Queensland.

Episode 4 - The True Cost of Supported Accommodation
Welcome to Fair Enterprise, where we investigate inefficiencies and systemic challenges in Queensland's disability and homeless accommodation sectors. I’m Grant Kelly. In this episode, we’re tackling the True Cost of Supported Accommodation — a financial burden above what residents can afford while demanding standards far beyond their budget. Supported Accommodation is more than just providing shelter—it’s a supportive framework, a human interface. However, the reality is stark: without significant changes, the sector is financially unsustainable. Today I share real trading figures from within the industry to highlight the breaking point operators face. We’ve seen systemic discrimination where government funding flows primarily to the “anointed” not-for-profits and charities, leaving private providers to fill the gaps at their own expense. Operators work unpaid hours, absorb additional costs, and bear responsibilities like outreach and resident transportation, all without sufficient support. The solution is clear: industries serving vulnerable populations—like childcare, aged care, and supported accommodation—require daily subsidies to remain viable. Participants cannot afford the true cost of these services, and the government acknowledges this need in other sectors. Next week, we’ll examine the Government 2024 Inquiry Into supported Accommodation, exploring its findings and what must change to ensure this vital sector can thrive. Later, we’ll discuss practical solutions to secure the future of supported accommodation. Stay tuned.

Episode 5 - The Inquiry Into Supported Accommodation
In this episode, Grant Kelly, CEO of Christine Court Assisted Living, critically examines the recent Queensland Government Inquiry into Supported Accommodation. The episode dives into key findings, systemic challenges, and the contentious debate between private enterprise and not-for-profit providers. With first-hand insights from hearings and committee meetings, Grant explores the implications of the inquiry’s recommendations on funding, regulation, and the future of supported accommodation.

Bonus Episode 1 - Not For Profit Criticism
In this bonus episode of Fair Enterprise, Grant Kelly addresses gentle criticism of his comments on not-for-profits in the supported accommodation sector. Drawing a comparison between the Gold Coast City Council lifeguard service and Surf Life Saving beach patrols, Grant highlights the efficiency and professionalism of the council’s purpose-built service while acknowledging the importance of Surf Life Saving’s contributions. He uses this analogy to spotlight the funding imbalance between private providers and not-for-profits in supported accommodation. Tune in as Grant explores the need for equitable funding and recognition of private enterprise efforts in delivering essential care.

Bonus Episode 2 - Government Inquiry Update
In this bonus episode of Fair Enterprise, Grant Kelly provides an update and clarification following feedback on the recent episode discussing the Queensland Inquiry Into supported accommodation. Responding to a listener’s observation about the seemingly limited number of issues highlighted, Grant explains that while the inquiry covered a broad range of topics with input from over 200 individuals and organizations, the focus was on the most significant and relevant issues. He also delves into a couple more critical points, acknowledging that perceptions of importance often reflect personal biases. Enjoy this thoughtful and reflective bonus episode!

Preview 1 - Dr Lutza Ireland Griffith University Report
This is a preview of an upcoming presentation of a report completed by doctor Lutza Ireland of Griffith university into supported accommodation in QLD. Dr Ireland led a team that interviewed 500 people across several supported accommodation hostels throughout QLD. The purpose of the report was to create an intake tool that would connect our vulnerable clients or residence with the services that they need, from the very start of taking up residency. Doctor Ireland further highlights unmet needs of all residents, the complexities of their needs and multi diagnosis, along with I recognition that the operators have supported accommodation provide services provide necessary services far beyond their responsibility or indeed compensation they get. Hope you enjoy this episode.
